As is often the case when NAB approaches, Adobe is launching several new features for video professionals. After Effects users will be able to enjoy optimal performance on Mac M1s. After six months of beta, the native Apple Silicon version of the software (v22.3) is finalized.
According to Adobe, renders are generated with a Mac Studio M1 Ultra 2x faster than with an iMac Pro. ProRes decoding is 3x faster with the new desktop Mac. But there’s no need to spend $4,599 on a Mac Studio to do better than an iMac Pro, the 13″ MacBook Pro M1 outperforms it in several areas too.
After its acquisition by Adobe last year, the collaborative platform Frame.io is integrated into the Creative Cloud. Its collaboration tools take place natively in After Effects and Premiere Pro. They allow you to share the current project with collaborators or customers and to discuss the modifications to be made, all within the two Adobe software.
Frame.io is included at no extra cost with Creative Cloud plans that include After Effects or Premiere Pro. This plan integrated into the Creative Cloud is valid for two users, five projects, sharing with an unlimited number of people, 100 GB of storage on Frame.io and the Camera to Cloud function which allows the film studio to send files directly in the builder’s project.
The first part of the redesign of Premiere Pro started in beta last year is now deployed to all users in this version 22.3. A new media import system, inspired by the Premiere Rush consumer application, is introduced. It allows you to select the videos to add to your project before creating it. If the first contact with Premiere Pro should be easier for neophytes, the application still allows regulars to create an empty project and then import the media afterwards in the explorer.
The header bar has been simplified and aligns with that of other Creative Cloud apps. There is the Home button, those to switch from one part of the app to another (Import, Edit, Export), the name of the project and a few other buttons dedicated to customization. Adobe took into account the opinions of beta testers by restoring along the way an option to switch in one click between different workspaces.
The part dedicated to export has also been completely revised, and by review it is still necessary to understand simplified. Presets are present for the most popular platforms (YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter…) and it is possible to export projects to several destinations at the same time.
Incidentally, Premiere Pro gains a new “Auto Color” feature powered by Adobe Sensei which automatically adjusts the colorimetry of the image. These first automatic adjustments can then be fine-tuned manually if necessary.
