Covid-19: PSG’s winter camp in Qatar postponed “in view of the health situation”


PSG announced on Wednesday that their winter camp scheduled for January 16-19 in Qatar and Saudi Arabia has been postponed. The club has indeed preferred to “preserve the health of its staff and its players”, according to a press release.

The Paris SG winter camp, initially scheduled from January 16 to 19 in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, has been postponed “in view of the health situation in France”, the Parisian club announced on Wednesday. “Given the health situation in France, Paris Saint-Germain has decided to preserve the health of its staff and players to postpone the Qatar Winter Tour 2022 and the friendly match in Riyadh”, which was scheduled for Wednesday January 19 against a selection of local players, the club said in a statement.

The internship, like the friendly meeting, “are postponed to dates which will be fixed later”, specified the Parisian club, accustomed to this winter trip of a few days to Doha since the takeover of the club in 2011 by the QSI fund.

Covid cases are piling up in the workforce

PSG has been accumulating cases of Covid-19 since the holidays, like many clubs in the Ligue 1 Championship, victims of the new wave of contamination due to the Omicron variant. Lionel Messi, Layvin Kurzawa, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Danilo Pereira, Nathan Bitumazala, Angel Di Maria and Julian Draxler have all tested positive since Christmas, complicating the Mauricio Pochettino-led team’s return to training , held in check 1-1 in Lyon on Sunday.

PSG now have a lighter program, with three home matches in a row, against Brest in L1 on Saturday (9:00 p.m.), then against Reims on January 23 (8:45 p.m.), and finally against Nice in the Coupe de France on January 31 (9:15 p.m. ).
