Neglected for years, webcams have become valuable selling points for displays. Even Apple has gotten into it by drastically improving the hardware and software of the FaceTime cameras of its Macs (there are sometimes misses like on the Studio Display, far from promises despite the last update of its firmware).

Dell is also betting more than ever on the quality of video calls, with the new 31.5-inch UltraSharp U3223QZ. Presented in January during the CES, this screen incorporates a camera equipped with a 4K sensor from Sony. Artificial intelligence is used for the automatic framing function and noise reduction. The camera block can be tilted vertically and it is possible to adjust the field of view to 65, 78 or 90 degrees.

As for the IPS Black screen itself, it’s a 4K panel at 60 Hz that covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut with 400 nits of brightness, it is DisplayHDR400 certified and benefits from a rate of 2000:1 contrast. There are 14W stereo speakers. And unlike the base version of the Studio Display, Dell’s monitor stand lets you adjust the height, as well as the tilt.

This UltraSharp is also a rather complete hub, with an HDMI port, HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, four USB-C ports (USB 3.2 Gen 2 at 10 Gbit/s), a USB-C port (15W), two USB- VS upstream including one that provides 90W power, USB-A (3.2 Gen 2), 10 Gbit/s Ethernet port, headphone port. Phew!

It remains to be seen whether the UltraSharp is fully compatible with macOS, in particular the intelligent functions of the webcam, as we saw in our test of the Samsung Smart Monitor M8 where the camera does not give the best of itself with a Mac. This screen is available now for the price of €1,395, with delivery starting Friday.
