Fiji Islands block a Russian mega yacht lying in its waters

A link has been established by specialized sites between this yacht and the Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, who is subject to sanctions by the United States and the European Union. The Fijian Attorney General has filed a request with the High Court to have the Amadea, which docked in Lautoka (west) last week without obtaining the green light from customs officers, be immobilized.

Fijian authorities asked on Tuesday to prevent a superyacht, believed to be owned by a Russian oligarch, from leaving their waters at the request of the United States, as part of sanctions against Russia following the invasion of the ‘Ukraine. A link has been established by specialized sites between this yacht and the Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov, who is subject to sanctions by the United States and the European Union. A yacht under the eye of the American authorities

According to this request, this yacht must “not be able to leave Fijian waters” pending seizure warrants from local and American authorities. Police are investigating whether customs and immigration regulations have been breached, or whether the yacht has been used in any drug, arms or money laundering cases. The Amadea is estimated at 325 million dollars, according to the specialized site superyachtfan.com, which lists luxury ships.

Several yacht tracking sites list Suleiman Kerimov as the owner of the Amadea, but this information could not be independently confirmed.
