Football: the L’Equipe channel broadcasts Barça-Real for the Spanish Super Cup

This is an event that should delight football fans. The L’Equipe channel is broadcasting the Classico this Wednesday evening between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup. A good catch for the channel since this meeting is the most followed in the world, as explained at the microphone of Europe 1 its director Jérôme Saporito.

The L’Équipe channel is broadcasting one of the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup this Wednesday evening. This competition opposes each year the winner of the Spanish Championship to the winner of the Spanish Cup. And it starts very strong with one of the most watched matches each year: Real Madrid faces FC Barcelona for the Clasico. The match will take place at King Fahd Stadium, Saudi Arabia.

A good catch for L’Équipe since no Classico has been broadcast in the clear for more than 10 years on French television. The director of the channel, Jérôme Saporito, explained to the microphone of Europe 1 how the group obtained the rights to broadcast this Supercup. “It’s a right we acquired two years ago and every year we wait feverishly for the draw to see if we finally have our Classico,” he said. “Broadcasting a Barcelona-Real Madrid, yes it has a cost, and yes it’s not cheap. But this star game is perhaps one of the biggest in the world or in any case one of those that brings together the most viewers. So we broke our piggy bank, but it’s worth it because they’re going to enjoy it,” he said.

“Over a billion viewers”

Jérôme Saporito also returned to this beautiful event, which should delight football fans. “A Classico in the clear is very rare. And what is rare is very precious”, he recalled. “There is the offer of pay channels, whether for League A, the Champions League, these are very, very good competitions and RMC, Bein, Canal or Amazon treat them very well. But we are on a channel positioning in the clear, therefore accessible to all. And football of this quality there, apart from with the France team, there is not that much.”

He also referred to a study that came out two years ago, according to which this Clasico is the most watched match in the world. “It’s more than a billion viewers,” he said. The meeting of this Wednesday evening therefore counts for the semi-final of the Supercopa de España. If they win, the Catalans will face the winner of the other semi-final which will take place on Thursday evening between Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club de Bilbao.

It may also be an opportunity to see some of our Blues play for free in a club like Karim Benzema, one of the Real Madrid strikers, or Antoine Griezmann, who plays for Atlético de Madrid. Kick-off of the Classico scheduled for this Wednesday at 8 p.m.
