A pioneer in several competitions

The 38-year-old woman had already become the first woman to referee a Ligue 1 match in 2019, the European Super Cup the same year and then in the Men’s Champions League at the end of 2020. She has also been selected in recent days among the referees of the Women’s Euro, scheduled for July.

“His appointment rewards both his serious work and his performance. It is amply deserved”, comments Pascal Garibian, technical director of arbitration, in a press release from the FFF where Stéphanie Frappart says she is “happy and proud” of this appointment. , decided Thursday by the executive committee of the Federation.

Present at Euro 2021

The referee officiating regularly in L1 has already been on the whistle during Euro-2017 and during the World Cup-2019 for women’s competitions. During the men’s Euro last summer, she notably acted as 4th referee during the opening match between Italy and Turkey.

Stéphanie Frappart is one of the pioneers of refereeing, like the Swiss Nicole Petignat, the first woman to officiate in the UEFA Cup in 2003, or the German Bibiana Steinhaus, the first female referee in a major European championship.
