The final decision is expected on December 8. The playmaker decided to file a complaint.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP), meeting urgently on Monday, sanctioned Olympique Lyonnais from the total closed session of its stadium as a precaution, after a throw of a full bottle of water targeting Dimitri Payet on Sunday and the stoppage of the match against OM. “In view of the serious incident that occurred during the match (…), the LFP disciplinary committee decided to put the file under investigation and pronounced, as a precaution, a total closed session of Groupama Stadium until the pronouncement of the final measure”, expected on December 8, announced the LFP. This behind closed doors measure concerns the Lyon-Reims match scheduled for December 1, she said.

At the end of its investigation, the disciplinary committee must decide both on Lyon’s responsibility in this incident and on the fate of the match, interrupted at 0-0 after less than two minutes of play when Payet was hit in the face. by a plastic water bottle as he was about to kick a corner. The alleged perpetrator of the bottle throwing, 32, was still in police custody Monday morning for “violence with a weapon by destination in a sports arena”. According to OL, “it appeared that the man was not a member of a support group and was not a subscriber”.

Dimitri Payet files a complaint

Olympique de Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet has filed a complaint “as part of the investigation by the Lyon prosecutor”, the Marseille club announced to AFP on Monday. If he did not file a complaint directly, the club, which confirms the procedure initiated by his player, initially announced by RMC Sport, clarified that he was going to be a civil party in this case. OM number 10, “very shocked” by this attack, which led to the final cessation of the match against Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday evening, consulted occupational medicine, at the request of the Lyon prosecutor, added the Marseille club, without being able to specify whether a work stoppage was issued to him.

Cascading incidents for league 1

The question now arises of the penalties which could be heavy, as the L1 season has been peppered with incidents since its kick-off this summer. Last August, serious excesses during Nice-OM, which had already started with bottle throwing aimed at Payet, were penalized with a withdrawal of one point (plus one suspended) and three matches behind closed doors for Nice .

OM are also under threat of a withdrawal of one point, the disciplinary committee having imposed a reprieve after degradations committed by Marseille supporters at the Raymond-Kopa stadium in Angers in September. The Marseille-Troyes match on November 28 will be played behind closed doors at the Vélodrome stadium, after projectiles were thrown during the OM-PSG classic and the intrusion of a spectator on the lawn in the 72nd minute.
