While a next update for the PS5 is scheduled for fall 2022, Sony has decided to remove this feature deemed unnecessary, and which you may not have suspected existed.

Improve player experience

Regularly, Sony launches new updates to make the user experience ever more innovative and qualitative. The arrival for compatibility beta testers 4K 60 120FPS on the PlayStation 5 a few days ago is one of them. A lesser evil when you know that the Xbox Series X already supports it. A 1440p intermediate is available on some televisions. So 4K games will now benefit from improved anti-aliasing with oversampling up to that 1440p output. A graphical improvement that matches the last arrival of the VRR, technology to make games smoother and smoother.

An underused feature

In constant testing phase, almost 2 years after its release, the PS5 also removes some of its features, considered too little used or defective. This is the case of function “braces” in the online mode. As a reminder, gamers could challenge other players by terms such as “Helpful“, “Welcoming” Where “Good player“, in order to create social ties and encourage positive exchange. Through this, Sony wants to bring more healthy relationships within its community.

The information was announced on the official PlayStation websitewhere Sony announces that: “Starting in Fall 2022, the Accolades feature will no longer be supported. This feature did not meet with the expected success. We are therefore going to refocus our efforts. We encourage the community to continue sending positive messages to each other.“.

So, as Sony points out, the feature hasn’t made enough people happy, and will therefore be removed from autumn 2022, in a future update. No doubt some players will not even notice such a maneuver.

Sony had already decided in the past to remove several features, such as stopping the possibility of buying or renting films and series on the PlayStation Store last year, or many services on PSP systems, PS Vita or PS3.
