Sony launches a utility to update the DualSense (but not on Mac)

The Mac is the poor relation for games, it is also the fifth wheel of the carriage for console makers even if it is possible to use their controllers on our machines! Sony has just put online a utility to update the firmware of the DualSense, the controller of the PlayStation 5 (whose adaptive triggers are compatible with the Mac since macOS 12.3). Alas, the tool is only offered for Windows PCs.

On Intel Macs, it is always possible to go through Boot Camp or virtualization software to use this utility, even if we would have preferred a macOS version. The DualSense can also be updated from the PS5 settings, of course.

However, Sony is not alone in favoring Windows: to update an Xbox controller, you have to go through either a console or a PC running Windows 10 or 11, using the Xbox Accessories application (read this publisher’s support page).
