The Sims 4: in the interests of inclusion, this famous family of NPCs changes their skin color

Since its creation at the beginning of the millennium, The Sims has gone through many iterations. After The Sims in 2000, fans of the saga were able to discover The Sims 2 in 2004, The Sims 3 in 2009 and the latest version to date, The Sims 4, in 2014. A slew of expansions, game packs and mods later, the game is packed with content. And for the sake of inclusion, Maxis has decided to modify this famous family of NPCs.

In The Simsplayers can create their family, consisting of a single member or many, or simply take control of one of the many existing NPC families. One of the most famous of them is surely the Goth family. Initially composed of Mortimer, Bella and Cassandra, the Goth family was modified over the opuses before being composed in The Sims 4 of Mortimer, Bella, Cassandra, and young Alexander.

An extremely rich family with a rich history that your Sims will regularly encounter during your escapades. Bella Goth, The Sims Version Of Morticia Adams, Is Hard To Forget In The Sims 4, especially thanks to her flashy red dress. But for the sake of inclusion, now the Goth family has been modified by Maxis. In the May 25 game update, the Goth family got a facelift. Surprise for the big players, especially since the Goth family is the only one to have been affected by this update. Their faces, clothes, but also the skin color of its members have been changed.

The whole family is more tanned and Bella has seen her breast size reduced. Expected changes that were teased in 2020 by Lyndsay Pearson, Vice President of Franchise Creation for The Sims :

“We recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for representation, she said, and we dedicate people to ongoing commitments to pursue improvement over the long term.”

Comparison by YouTuber Plumbella.

But if Maxis has looked into such changes, it is because the rumble of the gaming community has been becoming more and more audible for several months. At a time when inclusion and representation are more important than ever, The Sims had to act, on its own scale. And for good reason, the studio has whitewashed some of its characters over the years, including Bella Goth, whose skin has been lightened since her first appearance in The Sims in 2000.

Changes whose reception is mixed. Players disturbed by this representation of the Goth family had, for many, already modified its members via the character customization tool. For the others, the critics fuse, in particular in the face of elements of the game, sometimes released several years ago, still affected by bugs.

Really? THIS Is what you choose to waste your time one? When we have packs from FIVE years ago that are STILL broken. And THIS is the best you can do? Whatever happened to refreshing packs? Re-making Sims already in the game isn’t refreshing the game or fixing it.
