TS-233: QNAP Releases New Entry-Level Two-Bay NAS


QNAP adds a new model to its two-bay NAS lineup. Aimed especially at home users and small businesses, the TS-233 is equipped with a 64-bit ARM processor with 4 Cortex-A55 2 GHz cores and 2 GB of RAM. It also has a neural engine to speed up artificial intelligence tasks, like image recognition in the QuMagie app that automatically sorts photos afterwards.


Connectivity level, the QNAP TS-233 has a Gigabit Ethernet port, a USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 port and a USB-A 2.0 port. It can accommodate two 3.5″ hard drives and speeds can reach up to 114 MB/s. It consumes 3.43 W in hard drive sleep mode and 10.81 W in typical operation, which is lower in two cases to QNAP’s other two-bay NAS.

An 8 cm fan that the manufacturer promises silent is in the game. For those who would like to avoid any blowing, QNAP has introduced a new passively cooled home NAS that should be released soon.

The TS-233 is logically equipped with QTS 5.0, the latest version of QNAP’s operating system which includes applications for managing files, making backups (including with Time Machine), storing photos and music, file transfer… The product is already on sale at around €220 in several shops (LDLC, TopAchat…).
