Kohei Horikoshi’s manga has become a modern shonen classic. Building on its success with its animated adaptation, My Hero Academia continues to grow and has now become a true franchise. Consequently, we are beginning to find variations and products derived from the work, such as this Monopoly that we recently presented to you. And today we also learn that a new free video game should be out soon.

a brand new game for mha

In a few years, My Hero Academia has conquered the majority of manga and anime fans, by revisiting the traditional superhero genre in the purest shonen nekkestsu style. Take young heroes carrying hopes and ambitions, evil and charismatic villains, add on top a myriad of powers, each more diverse than the next, and you have the perfect ingredients for a recipe that can be declined on many supports.

And according to Gematsu, the publisher Bandai Namco understood this well, since it announced the next game My Hero Academia: Ultra Rumble in the latest issue of the magazine Weekly Jump. The game would then be a completely free-to-play battle royal.. Very little is currently known about the game, but the announcement states that it will feature 24-player matches, and will currently be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Although no release date has been given, the announcement indicates that a closed beta will be open in the near future. It is unknown at this time if players will be able to apply to participate or if the beta will be a closed initiative. One thing is sure, a lot of fans will be excited about a new game My Hero Academia, although some will probably also have some reluctance.

not the first try

Because My Hero Academia is no stranger to video game adaptations. As reported CBR, the popular franchise of Shonen Jump has appeared on several major game consoles and even tablets and smartphones over the years. The best-known video game based on the series is My Hero One’s Justice, a fighting game developed by Byking and published by Bandai Namco. Released in 2018, the title allows players to embody the iconic heroes and villains of the series, dueling in a variety of environments recognizable in the anime. Corn My Hero One’s Justice has received mixed reviews, because despite an elegant interpretation of the game’s explosive combat scenes, many have deplored the combat system and the story, considered superficial and too repetitive.

But the game was successful enough to spawn a sequel, My Hero One’s Justice 2. Released in 2020, this sequel improved on the original in several notable ways. While critics still feel the combat system isn’t engaging enough, other parts, like the story campaign, are much more detailed and extensive.

The characters of My Hero Academia also appeared in Jump Force, a game bringing together the characters of many cult licenses of Japanese animation, but which unfortunately did not know how to seduce its public, to the point of being removed from all digital stores just a few years after its launch.

Another point that could potentially divide the players would be concerning the choice of the type of game. Indeed, having made the choice of the battle royale, My Hero Academia rides on the trend of recent years, but also takes a risk by offering a new game in an already well exploited and somewhat tried and tested style. So let’s hope that with the potential they have thanks to the original material, they will be able to offer us a game that lives up to the original eponymous work.
