Western Digital will soon release a new ” ecosystem “ modular products for image professionals who handle large volumes of data in multiple locations. The Pro-Blade system is a reinterpretation of G-Technology’s Evolution line, which has given way to the SanDisk Professional brand.

SSD Pro-Blade Mag

The entry point to the new ecosystem takes the form of an NVMe M.2 SSD, the Pro-Blade Mag (Pro-Blade Charger). Equipped with standard PCIe 3.0 x4 connectors, it must be slipped inside a case or plugged into a reader to be able to be used. This small bar (109.7 x 27.9 x 7.6 mm) is itself resistant to drops up to 3 meters and offers maximum speeds of 3 GB/s in reading and 2.6 GB/s in writing .

Pro-Blade Transport Case

To take advantage of this SSD, SanDisk Professional offers a portable aluminum enclosure, the Pro-Blade Transport, measuring 130 x 71.3 x 16mm. The duo then serves as an external storage medium connecting to USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (20 Gbit / s) for a maximum speed of 2 GB / s in reading and writing. When the media is full, just replace the cassette inside.

Pro-Blade Station

Back at the studio, we will unload all our chargers in the Pro-Blade Station which can accommodate four at the same time. Thanks to the Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gbit/s) connection and active cooling, the speeds must be optimal: up to 3 GB/s in reading and 2.6 GB/s in writing. The station has two Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The Pro-Blade Mag SSD will go on sale in June in three capacities: 1TB for €224.99, 2TB for €362.99 and 4TB for €706.99. The portable box will be available at the same time at €103.99 bare metal, €298.99 with a 1TB SSD, €437.99 with 2TB and €781.99 with 3TB. desktop Pro-Blade, it is only announced for the end of the year in the United States, at an unknown price.
